I don't want to give ammunition to those Bruins "fans" who point to every action by the team and its management as proof that the team sucks, the players suck, the front office sucks, and the Bruins will never amount to anything (so...you follow them why?). But...
The Bruins went into Buffalo tonight to play the Sabres, who were unbeaten in regulation and atop the Northeast Division with the Canadiens at 11 points. They played them hard, battled for possessions and didn't yield very much, and emerged with a 1-0 lead after 1, and a 2-1 lead after 2. Making Ryan Miller look like Terry Sawchuck, the Bruins seemed to lack the finishing touch in the offensive zone for the second straight night, allowed an equalizing goal that wasn't Manny's fault, and lost by 1 in a shootout, again.
Now, I'm not hear to say that I'm angry with the Bruins pulling away with two points against teams that look to be amongst the tops in the Conference. I'm saying that, for two straight nights, the Bruins outplayed their opponents, could have earned 4 points, and instead are still mired in third, 4 points off of the division lead. Yes, it's early, and yes, there are a lot of positives to take away so far (Kessel scored AGAIN!). But certainly some room for improvement. Hopefully when they're back home on Thursday to face off against the last-place Leafs, they'll have some more bite to them (and I'll let you know what I find when I'm there).
Jeez. Should I change the name of the blog to "My World in Shades of Black and Gold" already? Might be talking about the Bruins a lot, given that the Celtics haven't started yet and I officially can't make head or tails of the Patriots. But I'll followup immediately with another post.
