I will not dwell on the Red Sox for too long, as I'd accepted they were toast after the Rays went up 5-0. Call me a pessimist or a realist, but anyone who says they knew the Red Sox were going to win the whole time is lying. Sure, after the Ortiz Home Run they might have had life, but before that they had done nothing to show me or anyone else that they were even interested in, let alone capable of, extending the series.
Of course, I don't want to think about the fact that the Body-Snatcher Pod People still haven't returned Josh Beckett to Earth (to the best of my knowledge), and I'm hoping Tito pushes up Lester so they'll have a chance at Game 7. I watched "Faith Rewarded" again today, and rewound the part where Kevin Millar (God, I miss him) says "Don't let us win today...". Don't let us win today, because we have "Lester" in Game 6 and then anything can happen in Game 7. If it is indeed impostor Beckett tomorrow, then he has to be on the shortest leash ever, right?
The events of last night made it a bit easier to get through the workday (not that I'm going to dwell on it a lot here, but I work at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, the Official Hospital of the Boston Red Sox...), though it seems that everything comes up on a Friday, when doctors, nurses and patients are all asking for things to be done for Monday. Probably forgot a thing or two that I'll regret come the 20th, but lalala not today's problem.
The other thing that got me through the day was the idea that, on December 10th and 11th, I could go down to DC to A) visit my brother, B) visit an old friend from home, and C) watch a rare and potentially awesome Boston Sports Doubleheader. On the 10th, the Bruins are at the MCI center to play the Capitals, and on the 11th the Celtics are there to play the Wizards. Now, there are a lot of obstacles in the way, namely the fact that it's the middle of the week and taking a substantial amount of time off then would hinder my chances of taking time off for Christmas. There's also the problem of getting tickets, as the Caps are pretty good, and the Celtics are, after all, defending World Champions. Then there's the question of where to stay, as my brother is at Gettysburg, but that's an hour away and I dunno about commuting back and forth so much in the span of 2 days. And I can't stay with the friend, for reasons I shall not go into here. But nuts to that. It's something to put in the back of my mind, and something to put some feelers out for this weekend.
So now my weekend seems pretty full, though I could stand to have some things to do to pass the time before the game tomorrow. The real big thing is me obtaining an absentee ballot, since I'm lazy and irresponsible, and the Boston clerk's office is open 9-5 Monday through Friday, so I wasn't able to change my registration from Worcester to Boston (well, Rutland to Brighton, but who's counting?). I'm thinking if I can obtain an absentee from Worcester, then I can still vote. I mean, living in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts pretty much assures me that my vote won't really make a difference one way or another, but it's the thought that counts. Not that Obama needs my help, and not like McCain has a snowball's chance in Hell of winning MA with my help, either. But I don't want the blog to get too political, at least, not yet. I still have some research to do, to back up my heretofore uninformed opinions.
But I think that's enough, at least for the time being. I think maybe next entry I'll start some reviews? Seen some good movies and the like recently, and of course you're dying to hear about that.
